The year 2023 will undoubtedly be an important milestone in Vermako’s history. The company from Tielt (West Flanders) was founded in the 1980s by Jacques Maes. Within the company, Vermako specializes in the design, production and installation of foil conservatories, as well as a department that focuses on budget-friendly roofs and industrial coverings. Since this year, manager and owner Jacques Maes has been passing the torch to the younger generation with enthusiasm and confidence.
Jacques Maes and his entire team ended the year with many challenges but also many opportunities. The new year starts with a generational change. After 36 years, Jacques Maes felt it was right to hand over the daily management of Vermako to the next generation. The company has grown from a one-man business to an international player, operating on four continents with distributors. It started with a simple welding workshop, today there is a modern production facility of over 20,000 m2. Everything is produced in our own workshops in Tielt. Since 2023, Vermako also has a fully operational pipe line, which means that the company controls the process from the purchase of raw materials to the complete finishing, without subcontractors. Both in the workshop, offices and in the field, the teams share their experience with colleagues with 15 years of service or more. From now on, Jacques Maes will devote himself to his passion of designing and creating new technical products together with the R&D department to further expand the product range.
Further development with focus on customization, collaboration and flexibility
It goes without saying that the younger generation (Kim, Kevin and Karl or generation-K) wants to continue working on the growth and development of the company. Its success is undoubtedly based on the realization of customized projects, with maximum flexibility and perfect execution that is the result of meticulous preparation and meticulous cooperation with the building owner. This total flexibility is reflected in two large-scale projects recently completed by the company. The first project, for the Dufour Group, was carried out according to a “Design and Build” formula, which means that the film canopy specialist undertook the preparation, coordination of work and final assembly. As a matter of fact, the assembly itself took barely 4 months. The project involved the construction of a 144 x 180 m recycling plant with a clear height of 11 m, consisting of a lattice structure with tubular profiles and steel columns. This lightweight structure was covered with transparent films. The second project, in Wijnegem (Antwerp region), has a large span of 60 m. The structure, also intended for recycling purposes, covers 60 x 70 m, with a free height of 14 m. However, since VCS’ open truss constructions are not limited in width or length, this was not a problem here either. On the contrary, Vermako Cover Solutions managed to complete the assembly in four weeks. Flexibility, careful preparation and intensive cooperation with the client are also the keywords here. The company took care of both the plans, stability and assembly of the structure. Once again, the result is a covered structure that is considerably lighter than a traditional steel structure, but obviously just as strong, and which also meets all applicable safety standards.
